Let's invade "Russia."
Let's invade "North Korea."
Let's invade "China."
Let's invade "Vietnam."
Let's attack more countries with drones.
Let's give "Israel" more money than they ever dreamed of. While we're at it, let's give them a few tankerloads of weapons.
Let's build another prison in some other country.
Let's torture the people we imprison there.
Let's keep them there forever.
Let's overthrow a democracy.
Let's plausibly deny something.
Let's categorically deny something else.
Let's speak to reporters on background, revealing selected classified information.
Let's make all information classified.
Let's shoot some descendents of slaves.
Let's shoot people who look vaguely like descendents of slaves.

Let's have another TV network of liars who try to get people enraged about what they lie about.
Let's have more radio networks who do the same thing.
Let's tell some lies ourselves, especially about important matters that concern us.
Let's elect a bunch of psychopaths to public office - national, state, and local. Let's give them a lot of money.
Let's make sure banks and corporations have complete freedom to do whatever they want.
Let's make the tax system more regressive, so that poor people bear a greater burden than they do now.
Let's find ways to make the already rich even richer.
Let's name a football team "The Darkies." Let's put it in the nation's Capital.

Let's repeal the Bill of Rights. Except, of course, the Second Amendment.
Let's abolish all workers' rights.
Let's spy on everyone everywhere. Let's blackmail people with the information we get.

Let's have more sex and violence on TV.
Let's have more violent video games.
Let's put more people in jail.
Let's make more things criminal so we can put more people in jail.

Let's sell off all our highways and city streets to private job creators. People can pay to ride.
Let's privatize city water, sewer and garbage collection.
Let's privatize all health care.
Let's privatize police and fire departments.
Let's act like jerks out on the highways.
Let's be cruel to animals, especially the ones we plan to eat.
Let's destroy some wildlife habitat.
Let's spill some chemicals.
Let's steal from future generations.
Let's turn the entire planet into manufactured products.
Let's make sure those manufactured products are shoddy and harmful.
Let's laugh all the way to the bank.
Let's bring back Bush and Cheney to run things again.
Let's...

All this stupidity is enough to make one scream and cry.
I've linked to this song before. It keeps coming back.
We've heard this song before. It's like déjà vu.
Let's do something stupid, set to music.
I saw Jimmy Buffett do this song many years ago. It was an underwhelming experience.
For a full movie on stupidity, click here.
Some might remember The Fugs. Another Fugs song. And another Fugs song.
This is the stupidity that got me started on this rant. You have to wait a few seconds for the comment to appear. It was preceded by this.
I started a hashtag: #LetsDoSomethingStupid . It was already taken. This might work: #Let'sDoSomethingStupid .

On the positive side, there are many people dedicating their lives to making things better. One of them is Robert Pierce, an organic farmer in Madison. He is featured in the groundbreaking (pun not exactly intended) documentary Food Patriots.
The picture is from the South Madison Farmers Market, an affiliate of a national organization, Growing Power, based in Milwaukee.
We aren't doomed to stupidity. As painful as it might be for some, we can learn a lot from people who descended from slaves. It might save our dying civilization.
Here's an update on the value and need for organic agriculture.
This update on the Senate Torture Report is worth reading.
NPR has an update about justice, or lack of same, at the Guantanamo prison camp.
Here's an update about our client state "Israel."
In another startling update, it turns out that Jesus, the inspiration for countless attempts to force people to believe this or that, may never have existed. In some places one could still get burned at the stake for saying this. This calls for another look at Life of Brian. ______________________________________________________
This song is due for a revisit. This too.
I have my own update in regard to ISIS/ISIL/The Islamic State. Here's my update about "Russia," "Ukraine," "NATO" and the "U.S."
Some might remember Bobby Darin. I'm pretty sure this was his biggest hit.
Here's Tom Paxton.

I moved to the Pacific Northwest (Idaho) ten years ago, and since then I have been searching for a blog that would sum up and formulate the Madison I knew and lived in for over two decades.
Your blog does this like no other. It has it all--the politics, the current events, the spirituality, the serious engagement with big ideas and issues.
It has been absolutely perfect this past month in particular. In that time I have been asked to explain to friends back in Madison why, for the first time in my life, I voted straight Republican, primarily as the only thing a person my age could think of doing to try to shovel riprap and sand in Chernobyl Sarcophagus proportions over the glowing meltdown of windy, self-centered, irrational, histrionic excogitations by Madison Baby Boomers who had everything in the world handed to their generation as a birthright, democratized riches beyond any other generation's wildest dreams...and now cannot possibly get used to the fact of how wildly wrong they were about so many things as evidenced by the outcomes of their policies...and that they are going to die...but still, maybe, just maybe, they can control what others think, feel, and do, given how they are right, and righteous. "While we still have time."
As though somehow the world is going to cease to exist when you do.
I see your generation's culture as latter-day Jesuits and Dominicans practicing the most vicious forms of fundamentalist ultra-conservative religio-social orthodoxy I know of in the US’s history, and even in most of the (non Muslim) world today. It has taken control of the nation’s media, government, and academic institutions. It has the power to declare anyone a heretic and punish them with loss of everything…while somehow insisting that, still, George W. Bush did it.
Your blogger comment engine asks me to prove I am not a robot. That is particularly ironic given how IME Grim Hopeful Holistic Sustainable Natural Paradigm Shifting Multicultural Catalysts of Higher Level of Dialogue are the most robotic creatures I ever encountered outside of Berkeley, CA, and several of the Seven Sisters campuses.
So again, thanks.
Oh, by the way? It's only news if you were born in Hiroshima or Nagasaki shortly before the a-bombing of those places. Anywhere else, especially half a planet away, you're just a tragedy tourist and poseur of the same species as the anti-abortion people who troll the internet for fetus porn.
Actually, the only honestly honest thing I see on your blog is your description of your one hitch in the Army. It's too bad that so many good men like you drank the corporate mass media's Kool Aid in the 1960s and learned to hate yourselves and your own nation, while adopting Eurotrash culture of hatred and blame of this republic and its people, cranked out by the corporate mass media, both left and right, taught as god’s own truth by K-12 and college education, and shored up by government with an increasing panoply of punitive laws that interfere with people's right to think, live, and associate freely.
Though I do have to wonder what you're worshipping other than your own projected anger, now that the Bush family is no longer in the White House. Oh, right. Obama.
And there's always white heterosexual Christian men in general to despise. And the working class, out of touch with which the so called left in Madison has been for at least 30 years.

PS—I used to be a democratic socialist, the Scandinavian kind. Then I woke up and realized that not all people are Scandinavians. thosewhocansee.blogspot.com
I just noticed this. Anonymous. Afraid to say who you are, even though no one will see it. Such is the life of the modern-day hero.
The "baby boom" officially began in 1946. I'm not part of a generation anyway, just me. Sweeping generalizations are easy once you define people by some arbitrary label, then place whole populations in it. Almost all of my high school classmates have been lifetime "Republicans."
The rest is just mental masturbation, and if of the "right wing" variety, would find a ready audience in Idaho. One could even form a posse of gullible listeners.
Proving one is not a robot is apparently pretty easy. The blog is generated by Google, so the captcha is theirs. It appears not to be foolproof.
Winters are long in Wisconsin. They must be even longer in Idaho. Get some Vitamin D. It can help with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Get a lot of it. Get out of the cabin every so often. Even Ted Kaczynski got around a bit.
