While We Still Have Time

In spite of the grimness of the times in which we live, there is still hope. If you feel, like I do, that the usual discourse about matters of critical concern tends to be superficial, misguided, and false, then you might find some solace and inspiration here. I will try to offer insight and a holistic perspective on events and issues, and hopefully serve as a catalyst for raising the level of dialogue on this planet.

Location: Madison, Wisconsin, United States

I was born in 1945, shortly before atom bombs were dropped on Japan. I served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971. I earned master's degrees in Economics and Educational Psychology, and certificates in Web Page Design and as a Teacher of English as a Second Language. I followed an Indian guru for eight years, which immersed me in meditative practices and an attitude of reaching a higher level of being. A blog post listing the meditative practices I have pursued can be seen here.

Israel’s Final Solution – With Our Help

The government of Israel – and its people - should have taken a lesson from Adolf Hitler. Genocide doesn’t work. And, of course, Israel's sponsor – "America" – might have learned the same lesson by now. The genocidic failures of U.S. meddling around the world are numerous, and resulted in many more deaths than THE Holocaust, the one and only holocaust, the one we are reminded of constantly. We are the banker and armorer for Israel's current attempt to eliminate the Palestinian people, and in true American fashion lie about it, obfuscate, pretend, change the subject, and in the end ante-up with more money and weapons.

It is one of the great absurdities of human history, but, sadly, I expect even greater absurdities lie ahead. Climate change is about to kick into high gear, and the leaders of the three greatest powers on the planet – the U.S., Russia and China – are playing around with World War III and its accompanying global thermonuclear, er, holocaust.

The greatest absurdity is that it is all for nothing. Nothing. Land, resources, dominance, the power to kill, imprison, torture, humiliate – all very temporary gains and thrills, and when these gains and thrills are ill-gotten they carry great consequences. The land of the Southern Levant, where purported Israel and Palestine exist, has no preference on who lives there, and what they do there. Thanks to the delusionary exploits of the British empire, it became under "possession" of the royalty of this island off the coast of what we call "Europe." When the declining British empire could no longer possess the region, in came the Zionists to seize control.

Any time there is a mass of people who identify as distinct, and are in turn identified by other masses of people as distinct, prejudices inevitably develop. These prejudices grow into mythologies, and over time can become deadly. Such is the case with "Jews." They are blamed for killing "Jesus," the mythological savior of mankind, according to "Christians." He likely never existed, but that hasn’t slowed the mythology down one bit. Because of a couple of millennia of prejudice, abuse, and ultimately mass murder, it is understandable that people who think of themselves as "Jews" might want to organize and fight back.

This is the South Fallsburg ashram as it looked in 1982. It is the former Gilbert's Hotel.I have lived with and around "Jews" for much of my adult life. When I was following a guru I lived in his ashram in the Borscht Belt, the legendary Jewish resort area of the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. I even worked at the most well-known of those resorts, Grossinger's. A disproportionate number of Jews were followers of the guru, Müktananda, and I of course got to know and became friends with many of them. When I worked for a well-known catalog-ordering company in Wisconsin I dealt with a lot of Jews, most particularly a cohort from an Orthodox faction in Brooklyn, zip code 11211. One thing I can say for certain is that they are people, like other people, good and bad, and that the behaviors that they sometimes have in common have more to do with time, separation and culture than anything else. We are all in the same boat.

We don't have the luxury of seeing what would have resulted if Hitler had succeeded with his "Final Solution." We can surmise, though. There would be no end to the killing. Another "other" would be found, then another. And another... Indeed, others were found in the "Third Reich." Gypsies (Roma), homosexuals, disabled people, the infirmed, opponents, communists, Jehovah's Witnesses. Even other Nazis were fair game in the endless machinations of power in this grisly episode in human history.

This new grisly episode in human history wouldn't have been happening without the sponsorship and encouragement of the government of the United States of America. Or, more accurately, the military-industrial-political complex of the United States of America. Since 1948 we have given Israel $233,700,000,000 in direct aid and $130,000,000,000 in military assistance of various kinds. That is a huge chunk of money. As we have done in many other places around the world, we have trained them in torture, imprisonment, state terrorism and various forms of subversion, assassination, suppression and oppression. It is what we do. There is no inherent love for Jews in this country. Israel is just the handiest "ally" in, God knows, profits, hegemony, scaring the region, lust for killing, feeling important, having impunity, stupidity.

Paul EhrlichAnd, I repeat, it is all for nothing. Very, very temporary, and thanks to the impending climate collapse, it will be wiped out as if it never happened. What is the answer in "American" broadcast and broadband media? Donald Trump is the front-runner for the 2024 presidential election. We're through, in the words of "Jewish" biologist Paul Ehrlich. Through.

Update, December 6: Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the U.N. is invoking Article 99 of the U.N. Charter, asserting that "The international community has a responsibility to use all its influence to prevent further escalation and end this crisis. I urge the members of the Security Council to press to avert a humanitarian catastrophe...I reiterate my appeal for a humanitarian ceasefire to be declared. This is urgent. The civilian population must be spared from greater harm."

R.I.P. Denny Laine. I wasn't aware that he was in Paul McCartney's group Wings, for me a forgettable band. This, with Ginger Baker's Air Force, is one of my all-time favorite songs. And this, with the Moody Blues, is pretty great too.

R.I.P. Shane MacGowan. Here's a mix of his songs.
