While We Still Have Time

In spite of the grimness of the times in which we live, there is still hope. If you feel, like I do, that the usual discourse about matters of critical concern tends to be superficial, misguided, and false, then you might find some solace and inspiration here. I will try to offer insight and a holistic perspective on events and issues, and hopefully serve as a catalyst for raising the level of dialogue on this planet.

I was born in 1945, shortly before atom bombs were dropped on Japan. I served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971. I earned master's degrees in Economics and Educational Psychology, and certificates in Web Page Design and as a Teacher of English as a Second Language. I followed an Indian guru for eight years, which immersed me in meditative practices and an attitude of reaching a higher level of being. A blog post listing the meditative practices I have pursued can be seen here.

The ideal candidate

I went to a family gathering a few weeks ago, and was discussing with a cousin the subject of who would be a good presidential candidate. I told her I would like to see someone who looks like a president. Someone like Franklin D. Roosevelt. Or Eisenhower. Or JFK. For example, I like Howard Dean, but he would be tiresome to look at fairly soon, for reasons I won't go into. My favorite is Jay Rockefeller - a good, honorable senator, and you can easily see him talking to the nation in an intelligent and reassuring manner. But he wouldn't be a good candidate either, again for reasons I won't go into.

Isn't there anyone out there who would be a good or even great president, and who looks like a president? Hmm. Yes. There is. How about a real national hero, someone who stood up to the two worst criminals on the world scene, someone who knows diplomacy first hand in the most difficult of circumstances, someone who would restore the honor and respect in the world for United States, which has been destroyed over the past 5 1/2 years, and someone who has a beautiful wife who is also a national hero? And, he looks like a president. Now I don't want to tell anyone what to think, so maybe you can figure out for yourself who that ideal candidate might be.
